The National Ozone Unit (NOU) from the Ministry of MEIDECC, Department of Climate Change conducted a workshop with members of the Tonga Refrigeration and Engineering Association (TREA) to discuss the key requirement of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone Layer, as well as the Kigali Amendment.
On the 27th of March, 2021 Mr. Paula Ma’u,Chief Executive Officer for MEIDECC officially opened and launched the Department of Climate Change’s portal under the Ministry held at Davina House.

The Department of Climate Change strives to put an effective system in place for Climate Change mitigation, adaptation and phasing out of ozone depleting substances. The Department follows the Climate Change Policy (2016), JNAP (2018-2028) that align to the Tonga Strategic Development Framework II (2015-2025) together with the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (2017-2030) and International obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kigali Amendment.
