National Ozone Unit runs National Public Consultations on the Ozone Layer Protection Amendment Bill 2019
08th November, 2019 A three-day National Public Consultations were conducted on 05th Tuesday – 07th Thursday, November 2019 for Importers, Technicians, District and Town Officers on the Ozone Layer Protection Amendment Bill 2019 at Basilica Conference Room.
The event was hosted by the National Ozone Unit of the Department of Climate Change with the aim to raise awareness on the Ozone Layer Protection Amendment Bill 2019.
Head of the National Ozone Unit, Mr. Uikelotu Vunga said the consultations are based on the requirements from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) as part of the obligations of being a Kigali Amendment party member.
“This is a way to inform the public on the changes made to the policy when dealing with importing of the Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) greenhouse gases to Tonga. We’re also considering input and feedbacks from the participants before resubmitting it to the Legislative Assembly. Participants will also have the chance to be learn about the quotas of HFC.”
The involvement of the participants will be an opportunity to present their comments for the amendment bill 2019 before handing over to the AGO for review and from there to the Legislative Assembly for endorsement.
The National Ozone Team will then continue National Public Consultations on the Ozone Layer Protection Amendment Bill 2019 next week to Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua.
