SUMMARY:JNAP Taskforce Training on Green Climate Fund's (GCF's) No Objection Procedure
DESCRIPTION:The JNAP Technical Working Group Training will focus on the purpose of the Tonga NDA’s No Objection Procedure\, a Government process for ensuring all project idea(s) and concepts seeking GCF funding comply with the country’s strategic development plans and policies. The JNAP Task Force\, which consolidates technical experts across the sectors\, is tasked by the NDA to screen and recommend project idea(s) or concepts for further development with accredited entities and submission to the Green Climate Fund. Ensuring this national mechanism is in place and effective will limit the duplication of project concept submissions to the Fund and the amount of feedback that usually occurs between the country and the GCF’s Secretariat. The training will also include an exercise of conducting the NObP screening of a project idea recently submitted to the JNAP Secretariat\, to better understand the procedure.

SUMMARY:First National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Reviewing the Tonga Climate Change Policy 2016
DESCRIPTION:The First National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Reviewing the Tonga Climate Change Policy 2016 will focus on providing recommendations and feedback from the sectors. The policy was established as a framework for all climate action in Tonga to achieve the vision of a resilient Tonga by 2035. The policy is subject to a 5-year review and with the support of IISD/NAP-GN (International Institute of Sustainable Development/ National Adaptation Planning – Global Network\, the first desk review for Tonga Climate Change Policy 2016 has been developed.  This workshop will present the outcome of the Desk Review for the JNAP Taskforce members and stakeholders to provide their feedback and recommendations.  It will be the first workshop of a series of meetings and consultations to be held with stakeholders. This work is envisaged to be completed in May and the revised policy will be launched in June 2021
