Tonga delegation to attend the Green Climate Fund Pacific Regional Workshop, 1-4 August, 2016, Suva, Fiji.

4th August, 2016 Hon Siaosi Sovaleni, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate Change and Energy is the Head of the Tonga Delegation to attend the Green Climate Fund Pacific Regional Workshop which is held  from 1 -4 August, 2016  in Suva, Fiji. He is accompanied by senior officials from Ministry of Climate and Energy (MEIDECC) and Ministry for Finance and National Planning.

This workshop is the second GCF regional workshop conducted and it is co-hosted by the Government of Australia and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Secretariat. It is anticipated that this workshop will help the Pacific island countries to build their internal capacity to access GCF funding and to develop country-driven ideas and concepts into a pipeline of concrete funding proposals for consideration and approval at the upcoming GCF Board Meeting which will be convened in December of 2016, Apia, Samoa.

The first day of the workshop is the High Level Segment followed by the three day technical workshop. At the HLS, Tonga was one of the Pacific Island Countries to make an intervention specifically related to sharing their views on accessing to the Green Climate Fund.

This GCF workshop is led by the Co-Chairs of the GCF Board, Mr. Ewen McDonald (Australia) and Mr. Zaheer Fakir (South Africa). Participants at this workshop include Pacific ministers, senior government officials and other invited dignitaries, including representatives of Pacific Island country National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and Focal Points, GCF Accredited Entities, delivery partners, civil society and the private sector.

At this workshop, the Tonga delegation  will discuss with GCF Secretariat and Accredited Entities the  GCF’s Readiness and Preparatory Support Proposal also the   other climate change project proposals which will be submitted to the next GCF Board meetings.
