Gaining Knowledge on Green Climate Fund with the Ports Authority Tonga

16th May, 2018 The Tonga Green Climate Fund Readiness and Preparatory Support Program (GCF-RPSP) under the Department of Climate Change, MEIDECC delivered a training with the Ports Authority Tonga(PAT) members at its main office in Nuku’alofa.

The training focused on building the awareness of the PAT’s members on the fund and its components as well as the key roles of the National Designated Authority and the Tonga GCF -RPSP.

The training commenced with a prayer and a welcoming speech by the CEO of Ports Authority Tonga, Mr. Mosese Lavemai. He also introduced the Ports Authority team of seven members from different divisions under PAT and explained the Green Port project which piloted in the Solomon Island and Tonga. He requested how can Ports Authority Tonga access these funds and sustaining a Green Port for Tonga.

Dr. Netatua Pelesikoti Taufatofua, the consultant for the Tonga GCF-RPSP, facilitated the training and emphasized the importance of PATs concepts and proposals aligning with priorities highlighted in the Joint National Action Plan (JNAP) the Tonga Climate Change Policy, Tonga GCF Country Programme and the Tonga Strategic Development Framework (TSDF).

The training was indeed a success and Ports Authority Tonga plans to work in close collaboration with the Tonga GCF-RPSP Unit under the Department of Climate Change, MEIDECC.
